Orlando's business and academic powerbrokers came together today to symbolically break ground on the UCF medical school and Burnham Institute for Medical Research.

The two buildings, which are to serve as the anchor for a medical city complex at Lake Nona, are being heralded major coups to diversify the local economy.

"Is it a great day in Orange County or what?" asked Orange County Mayor Rich Crotty as he took the podium Wednesday morning.

The ceremony took place under a tent just off S.R. 417 with the construction site and a cadre of bulldozers and dump trucks serving as the backdrop.
