Enjoy the Holidays With Some New Haven-Made Cupcakes

'Tis the season to indulge, am I right? It's cold outside, dark most of the time, and it's safe to say a fair number of us are just plain grumpy. Either from braving the lines while holiday shopping, or due to a lack of sun-provided Vitamin D. Holiday flavors are abundant this time of year, and it's hard to not want to cram a whole peppermint cake in your face in order to help yourself feel better. Thanks to Sugar Bakery in East Haven, you can pace yourself (or sample an entire cake's worth of holiday noms) with their selection of seasonal flavored cupcakes.

We had the opportunity to try a few flavors recently, and our tastebuds approve of our choices. Pictured below, clockwise from top left, are Candy Cane, Egg Nog, Sugar Cookie, and Gingerbread. Candy Cane is a red and white swirled cupcake topped with peppermint buttercream frosting. The peppermint flavor is smooth and subtle, and tastes like actual food instead of candy. Egg Nog is a straight-up celebration of the thick, creamy holiday beverage, with both the cake and frosting sporting the flavor. Sugar Cookie is a vanilla cupcake filled with sugar cookie-flavored cream and topped with crushed cookies. Gingerbread, the most delightful of the bunch, is a perfectly flavored gingerbread cupcake topped with vanilla buttercream frosting and candy buttons. Other seasonal flavors available in their store and on their cupcake truck include Chili Hot Chocolate, New Year's Kiss, Chocolate Muzzette, Anginette and Black Bottom. Visit thesugarbakery.com to view their full menu, and keep an eye on facebook.com/thesugarbakery and @thesugarbakery on Twitter to see where the truck may be.
