Pedestrian struck, several injured near east side

A pedestrian was struck, as well as multiple cars on the city's east side after a driver suffered a medical condition.

The accident happened just after 4 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Police say a man was driving his car east on 38th Street when he became ill and crashed into another car also heading east.

The driver then continued eastbound and crashed into two more cars and a pedestrian near the intersection of 38th Street and Franklin Road.

The pedestrian was taken to the hospital with a broken leg.  Others injured in the other vehicles were taken to the hospital in various conditions ranging from good to critical.

Police do not suspect any criminal charges in the accident.

The ill driver was the only person that was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

UPDATE:  Police say the 70 year-old driver of the car taken to the hospital in critical condition has died.
