Former corrections employee accused of trying to poison wife
A former Miami Correctional Facility employee is accused of putting weed killer and other toxins in his wife's drinks.
Grant County, Ind.
According to investigators, Jon Krum, 41, asked another staff member to give him prescription medication so that he could give it to his wife to make her ill. That co-worker turned him in.
Fox 59 she found out last week.
She said she and her husband had been having trouble in their marriage recently. She said she wanted to leave, but he wouldn't let her. That's when she started to notice "a real bad metallic taste" in her fountain drink every time her husband was around.
"He would act like he was taking a drink and give it back to me and say it was OK. And I'd take another drink and it would still be nasty tasting and I wouldn't drink it."
Jon Krum is accused of secretly putting weed killer, rubbing alcohol, anti-freeze and prescription medication into his wife's drinks at least four times between August and September. His wife threw the drinks away and was not injured.
"I couldn't believe it," said Lisa Krum, "that somebody who I'd spent half my life with, who'd told me a few hours before that he loved me would do that to me."
Investigators said it was that strange love that made Jon Krum do it. He told them he didn't want to kill his wife, rather make her so sick that she was dependent on him and wouldn't leave.
"Never would I have thought that he would do this to me to keep me," said Lisa Krum.
Jon Krum is no longer a Miami Correctional Facility employee. He is charged with attempted aggravated battery. He was being held in the Grant County Jail on $20,000 bond, but bonded out.
Krum will appear in court for an initial hearing on November 21.
