An accident at the site of a new Quinnipiac University dormitory complex has killed a carpentry foreman.

Emergency crews were called to the construction site at 305 Sherman Avenue around 9:15 Friday morning. According to police the worker was walking up an incline when a large forklift driven by a coworker backed into him.

Kenneth Merz, secretary of Torrington-based O&G Industries, confirmed in a statement that 58 year old John Borovicka was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Borovicka was a carpenter foreman working employed by O&G.

OSHA has been contacted, and has begun investigating the accident.

According to Quinnipiac University spokesman John Morgan, construction on the dorm complex, which includes several buildings, began in 2007. A portion of the building where the accident occurred opened to about 500 students for the 2009 Fall Semester. The completed complex is expected to house a total of approximately 2000 students.
