SOUTH BEND — This Friday will mark the inaugural 2012 First Friday gathering downtown.
From 5 to 9 p.m., special events will focus on themes of music and dancing — including dance lessons and yoga demonstrations.
Here are some of the scheduled happenings:
-- Book sale by Friends of the St. Joseph County Public Library, 333 S. Michigan St., from 4 to 8 p.m.
-- Gravel Creek, a bluegrass band, will perform from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Backstage Grill, 222 S. Michigan St.
-- The Woodward banquet and special events room, 111 Woodward Court: 5:30 p.m., swing dancing; 6:30 p.m., Latin dancing; and 7:30 p.m., salsa dancing.
-- Rockne Room at South Bend Chocolate Café, 122 S. Michigan St., from 5 to 9 p.m., yoga demonstrations. Yoga mats will be available for use.
-- Dhanwantari Center, 402 W. Washington St., yoga demonstrations and open house
-- Downtown South Bend Inc. office, 217 S. Michigan St., zero balancing therapy demonstration
-- Artpost, 216 W. Madison St., opening reception for photograph exhibit by David Cory and Susan Moore, from 5 to 9 p.m.
-- Chicory Café, 105. S. Michigan St., from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. will host a book signing. Brett Eastburn, a John Glenn High School graduate and motivational speaker who was born without arms or legs, will sign copies of his inspirational autobiography, “I’m Not Missing Anything.”
-- CircaArts Gallery, 528 E. Colfax Ave., from 5 to 9 p.m. will host a launch of Aveo Arts & Design decorative products.
-- Junk Evolution & Carpenter Gothic, 528 E. Colfax Ave., from 5 to 9 p.m. will host a pajama party and sale. Those who arrive in pjs get a discount on purchases.
Transpo will provide free trolley rides between five downtown locations from 5 to 9 p.m.
