SOUTH BEND – Police believe they have solved a nearly 16-month-old murder investigation in South Bend.
On February 26, 2012, Christopher Simril, 18, was killed at Walker Park on West Ewing Ave, and the autopsy showed Simril died of several gunshot wounds to the head.
After a long investigation by the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit, murder charges were filed Friday against Tyree Justin Scott.
According to court documents, Scott is accused of killing Simril during an armed robbery. Evidence shows Scott set up a drug deal with Simril and planned to rob him.
When Simril didn't give Scott what he asked for, police say Scott shot Simril.
Simril was an honor student and was in the medical magnet program at Washington High School.
Scott is being held in the St. Joseph County Jail without bond.
