Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested an Illinois man yesterday at Jellystone Campground on felony battery charges after allegedly seriously injuring a Columbia City woman.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies and emergency personnel responded Sunday at 11:00 a.m. to a laundry/restroom facility at the Jellystone Campground located at 1916 North, County Road 200 North, Pierceton, after receiving a call of an injured 24-year-old Columbia City female. Officers arrived and summoned detectives as the investigation alleged that the female had been battered severely by a male subject identified as Michael Patrick Zimny, 54, Glenwood, Illinois. The female was transported from the scene to a Fort Wayne hospital reportedly in critical condition shortly after the time of the incident. Detectives were provided preliminary information that the victim had entered into the laundry area where a confrontation ensued over the use of one operable clothes dryer unit. The woman was reportedly injured in the front temple area of her skull and eventually went unconscious as she attempted to return to her camp site.
K.C.S.D. officers located and arrested Zimny on a preliminary charge of felony aggravated battery with substantial risk of death. Zimny is currently being held without bond on a prosecutorial hold by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department was also assisted by the Pierceton Fire Department, Multi-Township E.M.S., and the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office.
The Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office advises that the defendant’s charge is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
