SOUTH BEND -- A telephone scam involving 1st Source Bank customers and non-customers has many people in the South Bend area worried.
1st Source Marketing Director Melissa Collins says numerous customers have called after they received an automated message by phone stating their 1st Source MasterCard had been frozen and in order to reinstate the card, the customer would need to enter their debit card number.
Collins says this scam is considered a "robo call." She says a fraudster looks in an area for a bank with a large market share and then dials random numbers.
Collins says it is important for customers to never give out any information via telephone, text message or email.
According to the bank official one customer has fallen for the scam. The bank had to then cancel the person's debit card.
