A local midget football player is battling cancer off the field with his team standing strong behind him.

Three weeks ago, 9-year-old Aaron Thomas, was playing football with his Tri-Town Tornado teammates.

"I got a phone call from his doctor and from the blood results it look like the cancer came back," said his mom Jenny Wagner.

Diagnosed with Leukemia at the age of five, Aaron appeared to be in the clear last year. Now instead of suiting up for playoff season, he's getting ready to go through chemo again.

"I miss him very much. It's not the same without him because it doesn't make a whole entire team," said teammate Dustin Bennett.

Everyone is working together to raise money by selling tee-shirts and bracelets and collecting donations at games.

Aaron's mom said he'll eventually need to have a bone marrow transplant and unfortunately none of his family members are matches. On December 2nd they're hosting a bone marrow drive to help find a match. It's from 2-7pm at the Church of the Open Door on Carlisle Court in York.
