EAST HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP, LANCASTER COUNTY—Police say a Cumberland County man being held in Maryland on a York County bank robbery charge is the same suspect who heldup a convenience store in Lancaster County. On July 18th at around 5:30 pm, James Allen Brown allegedly entered the Turkey Hill along the 2200 block of Marietta Avenue with another man.
With his hand in his waistband, Brown forced the store clerk to give him all the money from the register and safe while the second suspect pretended to be a customer. Both suspects fled in a red van. Police say Brown left behind a Pennsylvania Welfare ACCESS card with his name on it. The next Brown allegedly robbed the M&T bank on Kenneth Road in West Manchester Township, York County.
Acting on a tip, police converged on a York County motel, where Brown used his PA driver's license to rent a room. A search of room produced evidence linking Brown to the bank robbery and the Turkey Hill holdup.
Police say that Brown, aware that they were looking for him, drove to Maryland. There he got involved in a police chase after running a red light. He is being held i Maryland, awaiting an extradition hearing.. He faces charges in multiple jurisdictions in Pennsylvania.
