MIDDLETOWN, DAUPHIN COUNTY—Family is a big part of celebrating the Easter holidays and some local soldiers made their way home just in time for the celebrations. A group of local soldiers returned home from a 12-month deployment to Iraq, just in time to celebrate Easter with their families.
Parents and other family members at the Harrisburg International Airport said they were relieved to see their loved ones safe and home for good.
They said the year was a long exhausting year and a time that meant missing moments with people they cared about.
For one sergeant, he'll be using the time to bond with his one and a half year-old son he left behind.
"He's a year and a half now," said Sergeant Eric Ortiz, "And I'm finally getting back to trying to know him again 'cause I missed a year of his entire life."
The three returning flights carrying 26 soldiers were a part of the 828th Finance detachment stationed in Iraq.
