Thanks to $4.5 million in donations, the Hershey Ronald McDonald House is expanding. Construction is moving right along to add 20,000 square feet to the home.

"You can see the benefit to the children and families who have been turned away, it's quite an opportunity to have it challenged by the economy during that time period," said board member Tom Hinkson.

Fundraising started in 2007 to pay for the mutli-million expansion project. With more room, Ronald McDonald Charities will be able to help almost 2,000 families each year.

"You're not alone in this. You're not alone in this and just knowing that's gonna be there and they're gonna be able to accommodate more people it's just unbelievable," said Melanie Yozwiak who lives at the home with her daughter who is undergoing outpatient care at Hershey Medical.

Construction is expected to wrap up in September.
