FT. INDIANTOWN GAP, LEBANON COUNTY—About 50 local soldiers are back home after nine months in Iraq.
The National Guard members returned to Ft. Indiantown Gap Friday morning.
They had been using helicopters to deliver troops and supplies in southern Iraq.
The guard members faced fierce sandstorms and temperatures exceeding 100 degrees.
They say they're just happy to be back in Pennsylvania.
"It's definitely a long time," Sgt. First Class Steve Shirk, of Jonestown, said. "You miss a lot of things, espeically with the kids being young."
Many of the soldiers will have leave time over the next few weeks.
They will have a chance to reconnect with their families and friends.
