SOMERSET COUNTY—The Pennsylvania Turnpike alerts motorists traveling between Donegal Interchange(Exit #91) and Somerset Interchange(Exit #110) of a four-hour closure beginning at 11:45 p.m. on May 19 and ending at approximately 4 a.m. on May 20, for an overhead bridge removal at milepost 103.5 in Jefferson Township, Somerset County.
The overnight closure is needed to allow crews to remove the existing overhead bridge girders at milepost 103.5, which carries West Bakersville Edie Road over the Turnpike mainline. This bridge is being replaced as an early action project leading up to the Total Reconstruction Project between milepost 99 and 109. Work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions and other circumstances.
The recommended detours are as follows; motorists traveling east on the Turnpike will exit at Donegal Interchange (Exit #91), take State Route 31 east to State Route 281 north to reenter at Somerset Interchange (Exit #110); motorists traveling west on the Turnpike will exit at Somerset Interchange (Exit #110), take State Route 281 south to State Route 31 west to reenter at Donegal Interchange (Exit #91).
Alternate-route cards will be available to exiting motorists at the Donegal and Somerset Interchanges during the closure. Expect higher traffic volumes on detour roads during the closure. Message boards will be placed to inform motorists of the closure, and Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) broadcasts at station 1640 AM also are being used.
