HARRISBURG—The Pennsylvania Turnpike is now operating under a Weather Emergency.
Hurricane Sandy is currently moving northward across the Atlantic Ocean.
The storm is expected to make landfall along the east coast on Monday.
The storm will be producing strong winds and heavy rain over a wide area.
The rain will begin on Sunday evening. The heaviest rain is likely to occur Sunday night through Tuesday.
All travelers are urged to reduce their speeds and keep alert for changing travel conditions and Emergency crews working on the roadway.
All abandoned vehicles are being removed from the shoulder to allow crews to clear debris.
Due to severe weather conditions, the Pennsylvania Turnpike could ban some commercial trucks, including: doubles and empty tractor trailers if high winds necessitate, and a total ban of commercial trucks could be implemented on parts or all of the turnpike in certain conditions.
