A woman is recovering after being beaten and stabbed during a domestic incident in Harrisburg early Tuesday morning. It happened around 6:45 a.m. at an apartment located along the 300 block of South 13th Street.

Brian Hankerson, 27, is charged with Aggravated Assault and Criminal Mischief. Police say Hankerson became enraged at his 24-year-old girlfriend and began beating her. It escalated when Hankerson grabbed a knife and stabbed the woman in her left side, police said.

The victim was taken to Hershey Medical Center with a collapsed lung and a possible broken wrist, according to police reports.

Investigators say Hankerson destroyed almost everything in the apartment, including the doors.

Two small children were inside the apartment when the incident happened, police said.

They were not hurt.

The children have since been released into the custody of a relative.
