LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA—Funeral arrangements and services are set for Cpl. Eric Torbert Jr., who will be laid to rest Tuesday in Lancaster. The U.S. Marine is a 2003 graduate of Penn Manor High School.
Torbert died Sunday while serving in Afghanistan. He was a combat engineer assigned to the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, left for Afghanistan in November. The Associated Press reports that Torbert died during combat operations in Helmand Province.
An additional visitation period is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Manor Brethren in Christ Church, 530 Central Manor Road. A service, led by Pastor Marjorie A. Harris, will follow at 2 p.m.
Burial will take place after the service at Conestoga United Methodist Cemetery on Sand Hill Road.
His family, honoring Torbert's love of music, has established a scholarship fund in his name. Torbert's parents are asking for donations to the scholarship fund in lieu of flowers. Contributions in his name may be sent to the Eric M. Torbert Jr. Music Theory Scholarship Fund, care of Beth Enders, Susquehanna Bank, 536 Park City Center, Lancaster PA 17601.
