MANOR TOWNSHIP, LANCASTER COUNTY—An early morning fire displaces a family in Lancaster County. Officials say the fire broke out just before 5:00 Wednesday morning in the 100 block of Tracy Berg Road, Manor Township.
Blue Rock Fire and Rescue Fire Commissioner, Duane Hagelgans says it's fortunate all residents made it out safely.
"Fortunately for the residents one of the cats woke them up because their smoke detectors were without batteries. This could have been a fatal situation to say the least." Hagglegac says.
Home owner Kathy Rinehart says the cat woke up her fiancé and he was able to wake her up and get her out of the home.
"We couldn't see anything and we kept running in and out of the house to try and find anybody. But my daughter, my fiancé, and me got out safely and that was our only home" Rinehart said.
Two cats did not make it out of the home.
Officials say the fire started in the basement but the fire marshal will investigate to determine a cause.
