Washington, D.C.—It happens a little sooner than they originally planned but Bryce Harper gets the call to the big leagues. The 19-year old phenom will make his debut with the Washington Nationals on Saturday Night at the Los Angeles Dodgers. Harper was the overall number one pick in the 2010 amateur draft and played 37 games with the Harrisburg Senators. The Nationals placed 3B Ryan Zimmerman on the 15-day disabled list so they need to replace his pop in the lineup.
Harper has been at Triple-A Syracuse this season waiting for his chance to play in D.C. The Nats are also without Michael Morse so they made the decision to bring up Harper.
Washington is 14-5 and in first place coming into their weekend series with the Dodgers. Harper will join the team in time for their game Saturday and it could be the beginning of a long, successful major league career.
