HARRISBURG—Pennsylvania's new budget includes funding Governor Ed Rendell needs to help persuade Harley-Davidson stay in York County. Rendell has promised $15 million to help Harley restructure or rebuild its York County plant, but the funding comes with certain conditions.
Rendell says the state would provide anywhere from $15 million to $20 million depending on job creation and retention numbers to be provided by the company, according to the York Daily Record. The offer is competitive with "generous" offers from other states hoping to land the Harley plant if company officials decide to relocate, Rendell says.
Harley leaders are conducting a study to determine whether keeping the plant in Springettsbury Township would be financially plausible or if operations should be moved to another state.
It has narrowed the search to Murfreesboro, Tenn., Shelbyville, Ind., Shelbyville, Ky.
A decision is expected around December, according to Harley officials.
