DERRY TOWNSHIP, DAUPHIN COUNTY—Over 50 wineries all across Pennsylvania are attempting to break a world record, with the largest ever simultaneous toast. The record of over 17,000 toasters dates back to last year, when 400 pubs in the United Kingdom banded together to raise a glass. Now, Pennsylvania, with the help of native Mario Andretti, is attempting to break that feat.
Several wineries in our area are participating in the Great Pennsylvania Wine Toast. The actual toast is set for 4 p.m., Saturday afternoon but most of the wineries will have events surrounding the toast.
One of the area wineries taking part in the toasting is Cullari Vineyards and Winery in Hershey. Cullari specializes in Italian varietals like Sangiovese while mixing in a bit of Zinfandel, Merlot and Cabarnet Franc. Salvatore Cullari, owner and winemaker, says he is excited to take part in the event because it brings recognition to Pennsylvania wineries and the good work they are doing.
