A woman was assaulted in the Midtown area Monday by a man she knew from a local bar. Police say the victim was walking with William S. Jenkins, 47, of the 200 block of North 2nd Street, Harrisburg, when they stopped behind a business. She got into an argument with Jenkins and he became violent. He attacked the victim and choked her until she lost consciousness while trying to get her to engage in a sex act. She fell to the ground and he was tearing at her as she regained consciousness. A passerby confronted Jenkins, and he walked away. The victim was also able to get away.

Jenkins was taken into custody Wednesday and charged with Aggravated Assault, Attempted Rape and Unlawful Restraint. He was sent to the Dauphin County Prison in lieu of bail. Police would like to talk to any other women who may have been victimized by Jenkins. It was noted that Jenkins frequented bars in the Midtown area and may have socialized with other women.

The man who interrupted the attack has not been located and he is encouraged to contact police. . Anyone having any additional information on this is asked to contact Det. John O'Connor at 717-255-3175 or email joconnor@cityofhbg.com or Sgt. Deric Moody at 717-255-3156 or email dmoody@cityofhbg.com.
