SHEEPSHEAD BAY (WPIX)—Police believe an argument led to the fatal stabbing of a 13-year-old boy in the Sheepshead Bay section of Brooklyn Wednesday night.
According to authorities, Miguel Saavedra and a 12-year-old friend in Mellet Playground at East 13th Street and Avenue V, when the two were confronted by a group of teenagers some time after 7 p.m.
An exchange of words between Saavedra and the youths sparked an argument, leading both boys to run from the group after threats were made, police said.
A teen from the group managed to catch up with Saavedra on a bicycle just a couple of blocks away at East 15th Street and Avenue X. Police say that's where the suspect stabbed the 13-year-old boy several times with a screwdriver.
Saavedra was rushed to Lutheran Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police describe the suspect as a Hispanic male teenager wearing black shorts.
An argument that happened between Saavedra and a member of the group this past weekend may have prompted the attack, police said.
As of Thursday afternoon, no arrests have been made.
