NEW YORK (WPIX)—A man was stabbed to death on a New York City subway Saturday after a fight broke out over a seat, police said.
Gerardo Sanchez , 37, of the Bronx was arrested and charged with murder for the fatal stabbing.
According to authorities, Sanchez got into an argument with another man on the northbound "D" train in Midtown about 2 a.m. That's when the suspect pulled out a knife and repeatedly stabbed the man in the neck and face.
Police officers were immediately alerted about the assault, and were waiting on the platform when the train pulled into the West 53 Street and 7 Avenue station, officials said.
Officers say Sanchez was standing over his bloodied victim when the doors opened.
The victim, identified as 36-year-old Dwight Johnson of Brooklyn, was declared dead at the scene.
