STATEN ISLAND (WPIX)—Four teenagers, three 14-year-olds and one 15, have been charged with assault and aggravated harassment as a hate crime for allegedly taunting a 16-year-old classmate who is a Muslim American.
Asking that we only use his first name, Kristian told PIX 11 News he was the object of unrelenting and hateful bullying for the better part of a year when he was an 8th grade student at Markham Intermediate School on Staten Island.
Kristian said the boys punched him in the groin, spit in his face and subjected him to verbal abuse, calling him a "terrorist, a muslim who came here to blow us up." He kept the abuse quiet because the boys had threatened to beat him more if he revealed the attacks.
Kristian, however, broke his silence when he enrolled in Richmond High School and found two of the boys he said taunted him were also there. That's when he said enough is enough. "I regret that I stayed quiet for a year and didn't tell my parents." The boy's father said he is angry his son had to endure such hate. "He is a good boy, who was born here. He is American first, Muslim second, and when the time comes he will serve his country."
