RONKONKOMA, N.Y. (WPIX)—Police on Long Island are investigating an early morning blaze that killed one woman and injured another.
According to officials, the fire broke out at around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday at a home located at 808 Johnson Avenue in Ronkonkoma.
Responding firefighters arrived to the home after a neighbor called 911 to report the blaze. After gaining entry into the home, firefighters found an unconscious woman on the main floor of the house, officials said.
The victim, identified as 31-year-old Stephani England was pronounced dead at the scene. Eight other residents managed to escape the flames.
One woman, identified as 41-year-old Laura Caldara was transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Police are still investigating the cause of the fire.
