NORTH HILLS, N.Y. (PIX11)—A Long Island man was charged with DWI and reckless endangerment after he was busted driving drunk down the Long Island Expressway at speeds over 120 mph, police said.
According to Nassau County Police, Joseph Melendez, 26, of Central Islip was behind the wheel of a 2003 Mitsubishi Evolution traveling westbound on the LIE between exits 46 and 44 at speeds clocked by laser at 122 mph at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
Officers eventually caught up to Melendez and pulled him over near exit 34. He was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated, officials said.
In addition to DWI and reckless endangerment, the Central Islip man was hit with ten other violations of the Vehicle and Traffic Law.
Melendez was arraigned Sunday in First District Court, Hempstead.
