In an effort to curb out-of-control, intoxicated passengers traveling on the Long Island Rail Road, officials announced plans Monday to ban alcohol on overnight weekend trains departing Penn Station.

The booze-ban pilot program, which will affect trains running on Friday and Saturday nights between midnight and 5 a.m., is slated to begin on May 14.

The MTA is already spreading the word of the upcoming ban through posted signs and notices throughout Penn Station and LIRR stations.
