A popular judge on "Last Comic Standing" -- who happened to be a native of Queens -- apparently died after overdosing on prescription pills.

Greg Giraldo died Wednesday at the age of 44. The TV funnyman was hospitalized on Sept. 25 after collapsing in his New Jersey hotel room. He was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and remained in critical condition for five days before he died.

Giraldo was regularly seen on the "Howard Stern Show " and a number of Comedy Central roasts. In the past, he had talked about his struggle with sobriety. His rep made it clear the overdose was not a suicide attempt.

A public memorial service is reportedly in the works.
