ASTORIA, NY (PIX11)—Police are now searching for the husband of a Queens woman who was discovered dead in her Astoria apartment.
Officers want to speak with 32-year-old Jordan Hawes, who they describe as 5'9", 150 lbs. and may be driving a grey Jeep Liberty with NY plate #FEX7781.
Police received a 911 call at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday reporting n woman who was unconscious and unresponsive. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a 33-year old Tara Hawes dead and covered in blood. The medical examiner later determined that the she died of blunt force trauma to the head.
Investigators have not disclosed if there were any signs of forced entry into the apartment. It's also unclear who placed the 911 call.
It is important to note, at this point the husband has not been identified as a suspect.
A resident of the building at the intersection of Newtown Avenue and 30th Street tells PIX11 News there was a significant presence at the scene for several hours last night.
"There was a lot of activity outside the apartment building last night," said Anthony Cap, who lives in the building. "The police really assured us that it was an isolated incident so I'm confident that it is but at the same time I'm a little bit nervous."
