HARLEM, N.Y. (WPIX)—Police have identified the ex-convict who violently attacked a man with a knife, stuffed him in the trunk of his own car and later abandoned the vehicle when it crashed into another.
Cops say they are searching for 30-year-old Barion Blake of 3736 10th Avenue, a unit of the Dyckman Houses housing complex in Upper Manhattan. He is described as being 6-feet 8-inches tall, about 230 pounds with brown eyes and black hair.
According to police, Blake has at least three tattoos: one in Chinese writing on the left side of his neck, the name "TASHA" on his left hand and a scroll with scripture on his left forearm. Police say there is additional Chinese writing tattooed on his upper left arm.
While investigating a fender-bender on the Harlem River Drive Wednesday, responding officers made a shocking discovery when they opened the trunk of a grey 2008 BMW M3: a wounded, unconscious man inside.
According to police, the scene unraveled when icy roads caused the driver of the BMW to rear-end a livery cab at around 9 a.m. along the drive just before the road forks into Dyckman Street and 10th Avenue.
When the cab driver got out to inspect his vehicle, Blake took off running.
The cabbie immediately called the police who then searched the car, and grew suspicious after finding traces of blood on the trunk. After popping open the trunk, officers found a man tied up with lacerations to head, face and body.
The man was rushed to Harlem Hospital where he was listed in critical condition Wednesday afternoon. No identification was found on the victim on Wednesday, but he has been identified as 33-year-old Akeem Ajimotokan, a Columbia employee with an MBA who is described as a family man.
Ajimotokan and Blake met after Blake responded to Ajimotokan's online listing to sell his BMW M3.
Blake apparently planned to rip off Ajimotokan, and reports say he went to West New York with a license plate from a Toyota Camry in Queens. According to reports, the license plate of the luxury car did not match any criminal database records leading police to believe that it was stolen.
Ajimotokan let Blake into his New Jersey home to finalize the car deal when Blake slammed a knife into his head, nearly severing off his ear off, and stuffed him into the BMW's trunk.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
