NORTH MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. (WPIX)—A Long Island mom is under arrest for driving while intoxicated and crashing her car while her young son was inside.
Cops say 39-year-old Joanne Col was driving a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee when she collided with another vehicle on the corner of N. Broadway and N. Delware Avenue in North Massapequa at about 5:20 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
Col was intoxicated at the time and her 12-year-old son was a passenger in the vehicle.
The boy said he felt pain in his ear and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. He was later released into the custody of his father.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident was also hospitalized due to pain in her arm.
Col was arrested and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child under 15-year-old under Leandra's Law and endangering the welfare of a child while driving intoxicated.
She is scheduled for arraignment Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
