Liquid drain cleaner was apparently found in the system of a Nicaraguan diplomat that was discovered dead in his Bronx apartment last week.

According to reports, Cesar Mercado, 34, was full of Spanish brand drain-cleaner and the empty bottle was retrieved by investigators in his Grand Concourse apartment.

Mercado -- who has recently been diagnosed with HIV -- was found last Thursday around 10:30 a.m. Officials say Mercado had slash wounds to his throat and 12 stab wounds to his abdomen.

Investigators recovered two knives in the residence and said the bathroom sink was filled with blood.

His lifeless body was discovered by his driver, who had arrived at his apartment to take Mercado to the UN General Assembly.

The investigation into Mercado's death is ongoing.
