HAMPTON BAYS, N.Y. (WPIX)—Suffolk County police are trying to figure out who stabbed a man to death during a pre-dawn brawl on Sunday inside a Hamptons diner parking lot.
According to police, 26-year-old Calvin Butts of Riverhead was stabbed multiple times outside the Hampton Bays Diner & Restaurant off of West Montauk Highway. He was rushed to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses said the scene was complete chaos as people tried to revive the bleeding, lifeless man on the ground.
"There were so many people there and so much commotion,'" James Vlahadamis told Newsday. "It was a very, very hectic and traumatic scene."
The crowd consisted of diners and people who had been partying at nearby night clubs. The diner was shut down for a few hours as people spoke to witnesses and searched for suspects.
It's not clear what sparked the deadly altercation.
Police have declined to say whether detectives had any suspects in connection with the crime. But said no one has been arrested in the case.
