A video showing the brutal beating of a 30-year-old man in the parking lot of the Valley Stream train station has led to the arrests of two Long Island men.

According to authorities, Steven Wilhelmsen, 19, of East Rockaway and Christian Omar Cruz, 21, of Lynbrook are being charged in the brutal attack that happened Monday at around 10:30 p.m.

A driver for Valley Stream taxi was able to capture the vicious attack on video, which later assisted police in tracking down Wihelmsen and Cruz.

"This is a straight up robbery," Nassau County Police Detective Sergeant Kenneth Catalani told PIX 11 News. "Nobody knew who any one was before hand. We feel he is a victim of circumstance."

In the video, bystanders could be seen watching the beating but not lending a hand. Police don't necessarily condemn those witnesses, saying they would never advise anyone to put themselves into a violent situation.

Police are praising the efforts of the dispatcher that immediately called 911 and the cabbie who shot the video, which will help the case in court.

Detectives say both suspects have prior arrest records for robbery, and are looking at hard time if convicted for the violent assault and robbery which netted all of $40.

The victim, who was released from the hospital, suffered severe cuts and bruises all over his body and face. His identity wasn't immediately released.
