BROOKLYN, NY (PIX11)—Ask any resident walking down Sheepshead Bay Road, and he will tell you how a huge hole in the street at the intersection of Voorhies is unacceptable.
"Its dangerous!" exclaimed Sheepshead Bay resident Ugre Murvee.
Resident Alan Cohen told PIX 11, "It is ridiculous. I think they should fix this."
District 15's Community Board Chair Teresa Scavo agreed. "Anyone who would try to drive near here is going to lose a tire. If someone gets a foot int here, surely they're going to break an ankle," she said.
Scavo said the shoddy situation at Voorhies and Sheepshead Bay Road is the work of an independent contractor hired out by the Department of Transportation to do sewer repairs. According to people who live and work around here, this construction work has been going on for months.
"When a contract is let out to do this type of work, there is no one in place to come make sure the job is done and completed," Scavo said.
The DOT responded to our request saying that the responsibility is on the DEP since it is a sewer issue.
Residents said passing the buck is not good enough when their safety is at risk.
"I've seen a stroller fall with a little child once," said one resident. Another said, "I literally watched a guy trip over that."
