NEW YORK (PIX11)—Fifth Avenue is home to some of the priciest, swankiest, high-end jewelry you can buy -- or, steal. It could've been a scene out of Ocean's Eleven, when a trio of brazen thieves busted into the famed Bergdorf Goodman department store early Friday, a little after 3 a.m. Police say one broke through the glass of the front door, while another guarded him, and a third waited in a getaway car.
According to detectives, the three ended up stealing hundreds-of-thousands of dollars worth of pricey jewelery from designer Paul Morelli's collection.
PIX11 News visited the Midtown luxury retailer, which has called the corner of Fifth Avenue and West 58th Street home for nearly a century -- 84 years to be exact. A day later, workers were fixing the busted front door. And management? Nobody was talking.
Police say there's surveillance video from in and around the store.
While jewelry heists are the stuff of action-adventure movies, the real deal is no joke.
