Police in Newburgh have activated an AMBER Alert after a child was abducted outside of South Jr. High School Wednesday afternoon.

The victim is described as a black female, approximately 5 years old, 3 feet tall and was last seen wearing a short sleeve bright pink shirt.

At about 3:50 p.m. two Hispanic males stopped in front of the school located at 33 Monument St., and grabbed the girl, covering her mouth to stop her screams, police said. The two men -- one with long black hair and the other wearing a black shirt and a black fitted baseball cap – shoved the girl into a black or dark pickup truck and drove off. The truck may also have green writing on it.

Police are investigating the case after receiving a call from someone claiming to have witnessed the abduction, but no parents have yet confirmed that a child is missing.

Anyone with any information on this abduction is asked to call the City of Newburgh Police at (866)N Y S-AMBER or dial 911 to provide information on a report or sighting.
