MASTIC, N.Y. (PIX11)—
A house fire on Long Island
claimed the lives of two men late Thursday and critically injured one woman, police said.
According to authorities, the fire broke out sometime before 11 p.m. at the home on Broadway in Mastic. Firefighters were called to the scene after a neighbor called 911 to report the blaze.
When firefighters gained access into the home, three of the home's residences were pulled. The woman, who has been identified as 64-year-old Barbara DeSouza was the only survivor. She was transported to Stony Brook University
Medical Center where she remains in critical condition.
DeSouza's husband, identified as 64-year-old Douglas DeSouza and a second man were among the deceased. According to reports, the third victim was a close family friend whose identity is being withheld pending family notification.
Police were on the scene Friday investigating the cause of the fire.
