Chicago Public School officials and the Chicago Teachers Union may be at the bargaining table but some of the representatives WGNTV spoke with earlier Thursday are not expressing much optimism that a strike can be averted next week.
After ten months of negotiations, both sides are reportedly turning full attention to the most contentious issue on the table: Pay raises.
Schools chief Jean-Claude Brizard says he hopes a strike will not happen.
Brizard said should a strike occur, there are 144-schools that will open for a half-day, From 8:30 until 12:30 p.m..
Also 60-churches have been designated by CPS as safe haven sites where children can go.
