A tornado was confirmed Friday in St. Mary's and Calvert counties in southern Maryland, the National Weather Service said.

An EF-0 tornado, with an estimated maximum wind speed of 80 mph, moved from Compton in St. Mary's County to Cove Point in Calvert between 12:23 p.m. and 12:39 p.m. No injuries or fatalities were reported, but trees were down. The weather service received 15 damage reports that appeared linear when mapped.

A tornado watch had been issued for a large swath of Maryland Friday afternoon.
