A sunny and relatively mild Valentine's Day is in the forecast Thursday in the Baltimore area, according to the National Weather Service.

After a mix of snow and rain was expected to taper off in the early morning hours, temperatures are expected to rise from the mid-30s to the upper 40s by the afternoon. Clouds are expected to clear out early, allowing sunny skies throughout the day.

Slight winds of 5-10 mph are forecast.

Clouds could begin moving back in overnight Thursday, with partly cloudy skies expected Friday. Temperatures could be even milder Friday, reaching the mid-50s.

Though forecast models had called for a chance of weekend snow, forecasters are calling for just a chance of rain showers overnight Friday before calm weather sets in for the weekend.

Temperatures could be colder, though, with highs in the 30s and lower 40s and lows around 30 degrees.
