Calm weather is forecast for the Baltimore area Tuesday, with sunny skies and highs in the mid-40s, before rain and snow arrive in the evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Clouds are expected to start moving in for the afternoon, first bringing rain or a mix of rain and snow. Precipitation is expected to change over to snow by early Wednesday morning.

Overnight lows Tuesday into Wednesday are expected in the mid-30s with wind chills in the mid-20s from a 10-25 mph breeze. The relatively mild temperatures are expected to make the snow a wet, heavy variety, unlike the powdery dustings that have fallen this winter.

Strong winds are expected throughout the day Wednesday, causing some concern for possible power outages as the snow is expected to weigh down trees.

Forecasters expect the heaviest snow to fall early Wednesday, with 2-4 inches falling in the morning hours and 4-6 inches falling in total from Tuesday night through Wednesday night. A winter storm watch was in effect for all of Central Maryland for that time.
