Rainy, stormy stretch starts Friday, lasting through weekend

Periods of rain and storms are likely to begin Friday and continue through the weekend, with relatively cool temperatures.

About a 50 percent chance of showers is expected Friday, with thunderstorm chances in the afternoon. Highs are forecast in the lower 80s.

For the weekend, the forecast is consistent -- persistent rain chances with possible storms in the afternoon, and highs around 80 degrees and lows in the 60s.

But precipitation is not forecast to be heavy, with half an inch or less expected.

Dry weather is expected to return Monday, though with clouds not clearing until Tuesday.
