Rainy weather is forecast this week leading up to the 139th Preakness Stakes, but a partly cloudy day with highs around 70 degrees is forecast for the event itself.
Chances for showers and thunderstorms are expected Tuesday and Wednesday, with heavy rain and storms late Thursday night through Friday.
Storm chances are expected to taper off by Friday evening, and after that clouds are expected to gradually clear out into Saturday. Winds are forecast to be still on Saturday.
It's expected to be a second consecutive cooler-than-normal Preakness day. In 2013, a high of 67 degrees was reported with overcast skies. The norm for this time of year is around the mid-70s.
Before that, there were four consecutive years of warmer-than-normal temperatures, with highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
