Learn how to properly measure snowfall at class in Ellicott City

Learn how to properly measure snowfall at a National Weather Service training session in Ellicott City.

The National Weather Service is holding a training session for winter weather spotters this month in Ellicott City.

It is offering its Skywarn Winter Weather class from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Roger Carter Community Center.

The class will cover what makes snowstorms form and develop in this region, how to read the weather service's winter storm forecasts, and how to properly measure snowfall (it involves leaving a white board outside and periodically clearing it off).

Attendees should have already completed the weather service’s Skywarn Basics class.
