A winter storm warning is in effect for Garrett County from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. The ice is expected to mix with about an inch of snow amid 20-35 mph winds. Allegany County was meanwhile under a winter storm watch.
Ice is expected to be confined to the mountains of Garrett County, with light snow potentially coming as far east as Frederick County.
A flood watch was issued for Central Maryland, including all of the greater Baltimore region, for Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday evening. Rainfall could total 1-2 inches, according to the weather service.
Locally heavy rainfall could flood creeks and streams, spilling out over roadways, the flood watch cautions.
The system is bringing 60 mph wind gusts with heavy snow in northern Texas, with severe storms to the south in Arkansas and Louisiana. Forecasts are mixed for what the system might do in the Northeast, with some models predicting more of a mix and others snowfall.
With temperatures forecast in the mid-40s Tuesday in the Baltimore area, frozen precipitation is not expected here, according to meteorologists in the weather service's Baltimore/Washington forecast office.
