Highs near 90 with chance of evening storms forecast Wednesday

Highs in the upper 80s are forecast Wednesday with a chance of afternoon or evening thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.

Partly sunny skies are forecast to start the day, with increasing clouds throughout the day. Temperatures are expected to rise from overnight lows in the lower 70s to the mid 80s by midday. Highs could approach 90 degrees.

Meteorologists called for a chance of storms moving through the Ohio Valley to cross over the Appalachians, possibly bringing more rain, thunder and lightning in the afternoon and evening. It's also possible the storms don't make it over the mountains.

More severe weather chances arrive Thursday, however. Highs are forecast in the upper 80s again with high humidity. As a cold front approaches from the west, severe storms could develop. Forecasters are calling for nearly 2 inches more in rain on Thursday.

Beyond that, milder and less humid weather is expected, with more sunshine. Highs are forecast around 80 degrees Friday through Sunday with partly cloudy skies.
