Heat index forecast to hit upper 90s Tuesday

Temperatures in the lower 90s coupled with uncomfortably high humidity is forecast to make it feel close to 100 degrees Tuesday.

Temperatures were forecast to settle only in the lower 70s overnight, reaching the upper 80s by midday and the lower 90s in the afternoon. Dew points around 70 degrees are forecast to make it feel about 5 degrees hotter.

Partly cloudy skies and southerly winds of 10-15 mph are expected.

The heat index could surge above 100 degrees Wednesday, with temperatures reaching the mid-90s and even more oppressive humidity, with dew points in the lower 70s. Thunderstorms are likely in the afternoon and evening.

Thunderstorm chances continue Thursday, with temperatures slightly cooler in the upper 80s but heat index values still in the lower 90s.

Friday is expected to be cooler and drier, with thunderstorms possible in the first half of the day and highs around 80 degrees. Partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the 70s are forecast for evening fireworks shows.
